![]() What next?įor those interested, my next post will show detailed information about customizing WinPE media, creating and editing scripts for a process like this, and so on. The whole process of installing Windows takes two key presses and not a single mouse click. The rest is done automatically, without any user interaction. Select the one you want to install:Īll done. In a minute, you will then see all available Windows editions. On dual disk systems, one disk will be partitioned as the Windows system disk, and the other will be partitioned as a single partition labelled Data. The selected disk or disks will be partitioned correctly. If you select menu option 4, you will be shown a standard Windows Setup screen, from which you can shut down the computer, or do a traditional, manual Windows installation. In my case, I want Windows on the secondary SSD disk, so I would choose menu option 3: Using my HP ProBook laptop as an example, it comes with a big HDD as its primary disk, and a smaller SSD as its secondary disk. ![]() The first you will see after the boot is the menu that lets you choose, if you have one or two disks, and where Windows will be installed. Some, if not most computers today ship with two disks. All user data will be destroyed (make a backup)!!! Preparations are now done! Boot from WinPE USB IMPORTANT: Booting from this USB flash drive, and proceeding with the deployment, HDD or SSD will be wiped, new partitions created, and fresh, clean Windows will be installed. Save the answer file as unattend.xml at the root of the NTFS partition Deploy. Microsoft Time Zone Index Values | Microsoft Docs DisplayName is how the name will be shown for instance on sign-in screen, Name is the name of user profile. Complete list: Default Input Profiles (Input Locales) in Windows | Microsoft Docs Lines 28 and 30: Name of main admin account. InputLocale is the default keyboard, it and all the rest must match the language and region of your Windows 10 ISO. Open the downloaded answer file in Notepad, and change the following lines to meet your requirements (line numbers refer to OneDrive view): Lines 5 to 9: your localized language settings. Next, mount a Windows ISO, and copy its contents to the NTFS partition named Deploy. Copy its contents, all files and folders, to the smaller FAT32 partition on the USB drive. Mount the downloaded WinPE ISO (right click and select Mount). Because Windows 10 install.wim file size is approaching the magical 4 GB limit for any FAT32 partition, it’s a good idea to format the partition that contains Windows install files as NTFS. The smaller partition contains WinPE, and the bigger partition contains files from a Windows 10 ISO. The smaller FAT32 partition can be without label, or labelled as you wish, but for the custom deployment to work, the bigger NTFS partition must be labelled Deploy. Screenshot from a standard 16 GB (formatted capacity 14.84 GB) USB flash drive. We need two partitions: a 1 GB (1024 MB) FAT32 partition, and an NFTS partition at least 5 GB in size (or larger): Because partitions on a USB flash drive cannot be shrunk or expanded without some third party tool, partition it either with Windows Disk Management, or using DISKPART. This USB drive needs to be 8 GB or bigger in capacity. Also, download the custom answer file I have prepared for use with the ISO: unattend.xmlĪll screenshots can be viewed enlarged in a new tab by clicking them. If you need a 32-bit version, or a version for MBR disks, please let me know in your comments to this article.įirst, download the ISO from my OneDrive: WinPE圆4 (460 MB). Please note: This ISO is for 64-bit Windows, and works only for GPT partitioned disks.
